SHARE THIS STORY. MAGGIE: IT’S BEEN A YUKON STAPLE OF ENTERTAINMENT FOR THAT TOWN AND THE SURROUNDING AREA. BUT RECENTLY, THE STAGE DOOR THEATRE FOUND THEMSELVES WITHOUT A PLACE TO PERFORM. AND NOW THEY’RE INVITING YOU TO DINNER AND A SHOW IN HOPES OF FUNDING A NEW PLACE TO SHOWCASE THEIR CRAFT. JOINING ME LIVE IN STUDIO, KYLE SHIFFLETT AND FREIDA PENN, W IS ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND, KYLE, YOU ARE THE DIRECTOR OF THE SHOW. SO GLAD THAT YOU ARE HERE. TALK ABOUT WHY YOU HAVE MOVED. WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THE TEMPORARY CHANGE? THE STA DOOR FIRST BECAME A THEATER GROUP IN 1987 IN YUKON. THEY WERE A TRAVELING GROUP, PERFORMED WHEREVER THEY COULD FIND A STAGE. IN 1995, THE CITY OF YUKON LEAST THE ORIGINAL BUILDING FROM THE SCHOOL SYSTEM AND RENOVATED IT SO THAT STAGE DOOR COULD HAVE A THEATER THERE, THEN THE MUSEUM WAS THERE, A FEW OTHER NONPROFIT GROUPS. THE CITY BASICALLY PAID FOR THE LEASE OF THIS BUILDING FOR 20 YEARS, AND WE WERE THERE FOR FREE. A WONDERFUL WAY FOR THE CITY TO SUPPORT US. THE BUILDING WAS one hundred YEARS OLD, AND WHEN THE LEASE RAN OUT, THE CITY DECIDED IT WAS NOT WORTH REPAIRING IT. THEY DID NOT RENEW THE LEASE, WHICH PUT US OUT OF A HOME. WE STUMBLED ON CHESTER, AND HE IS WILLING TO LET US BUILD OUT THERE WHEN WE GET THE MONEY TOGETHER. NOW WE ARE MADLY TRYING TO FUND RAISE AND GET THE WORD OUT THAT THE STAGE DOOR IS NOT DEAD. MAGGIE YOU ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A CAPITAL CAMPAIGN, BUILDING SOMETHING ON THAT PROPERTY. HE APPROACHED US ABOUT WORKING WITH HIM. HE HAS A LARGE VENUE OF FALL FESTIVALS, CHILDREN’S GROUPS COMING IN, AND HE WANTED TO ADD AN ENTERTAINMENT PART TO HIS PARK. MAGGIE: NICE PARTNERSHIP, ESPECIALLY INTRODUCING YOUNG ONES TO THE THEATER. TALK ABOUT THE UPCOMING SHOW. WILL YOU BE ON PROPERTY? WE WILL. IT IS TONY AND TINA’S WEDDING. WE HAVE NOT HEARD DONE SOMETHING LIKE THIS. IT IS NOT SCRIPTED. YOU HAVE ALL OF THESE LINES USUALLY. NOW IT IS, THESE ARE THE EVENTS. THE AUDIENCE IS TREATED AS WEDDING GUESTS. AS SOON AS YOU ARRIVE, YOU ARE A WEDDIN GUEST, YOU GO TO THE RECEPTION. WE HAVE CATERING FROM RUNNING WILD CATERING, AND WE HAVE A GREAT SHOW TO PUT ON. MAGGIE: WE WANT TO GIVE YOU SOME OF THE DETAILS. STAGE DOOR THEATER, TEMPORARY LOCATION IN PIEDMONT. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. 7:00 P.M. THE IDEA IS, LET’S BRING IN MORE MONEY, TAKE PART IN THIS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN. IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO SUPPORT OUR LOCAL THEATER. IT IS SO EASY TO DO, IT IS RIGHT HERE, AND IT’S IMPORTANT. YOU MENTION THE KIDS, AND NOT JUST KIDS, BUT IT IS A WHOLE FAMILY ACTIVITY. ANYTIME I’VE BEEN INVOLVED IN COMMUNITY THEATER, WE HAD CHILDREN, PARENTS WOULD COME TO GE INVOLVED, THEIR KIDS WOULD GET INVOLVED, AND THEN IT…
